In 1934, enterprising farmers started an informal outdoor market at the corner of Fairfax and Third Street, selling produce from their vehicles. Over seven decades later, the Farmers Market is still one of the most popular sights in Los Angeles and draws over 3 million visitors to its location a year. The Hollywood Farmers Market is an official Los Angeles Cultural and Historical Landmark.

 

The Farmers Market is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Los Angeles. It is visited by over 40,000 people a day during the peak Summer months. Earl's Service Station is an exact replica of the 1936 Gilmore Gas Station. It was built at the turn of this century at the Hollywood Farmers Market..

Located right next to CBS TV City, the Farmers Market also sees its fair share of celebrities and soap opera heartthrobs visiting from that studio that want to have a quick lunch or take home some fruit.

 

CBS TV City (on Fairfax), was built in 1952. This is where the network tapes many of the nation's favorite television programs, including soap operas such as "The Young & the Restless", talks shows such as the "Late Late Show" ( hosted by Craig Ferguson), and the classic game show "The Price is Right."

On a typical day, you will see long lines of would-be "Price is Right" contestants waiting out front on Fairfax Ave, sporting bright tee shirts with large name tags on their shirts, and hoping that once inside, Drew Carey will tell them to "Come on down!"

 

This is the CBS TV City lot on Fairfax Ave and the newly remodeled  Farmer's Daughter Hotel that is located right across the street. If you plan on attending a "Price is Right" filming, all you have to do is walk across the street from the hotel to the CBS waiting line.  This hotel is also by the Hollywood Farmers Market and The Grove shopping center.

Opened in 2002, The Grove Los Angeles  is  an 80,000 square foot retail shopping and restaurant complex that  was built adjacent to the historic Farmers Market. It centers on a landscaped park and a dancing fountain. The tall statue stands as reminder than you have arrived in the Grove.  It has become a popular spot for shopping and dining. Lively crowds and street layout make it feel like an old-fashioned downtown as you see in some European cities.

Glockenspiel Musical clock is located on the dome at The Grove Los Angeles. The fountain has a choreographed water-and-music show that plays every half-hour. The primary access to The Grove Los Angeles parking garage is from The Grove Drive with 3,500 parking spaces in a seven-story structure. Parking can be validated from The Grove businesses. If you want to browse at The Grove but eat at the Farmers Market, you may want to park there instead.
 

You may be lucky enough to watch a film crew on site making a movie or show with the Grove as a back ground. It is not unusual to see film crew action in the area especially since CBS TV City Studios is almost next door!
